Thomson Back For Hearts

Injuries may allow Jason Thomson to claim a long-term berth in the Hearts side.
Jason Thomson has been given the nod to replace the suspended Eggert Jonsson for Saturday's game against Kilmarnock. Thomson lost his place to Iceland international Jonsson after just three games this season but is set for a fresh opportunity this weekend after the latter's red card at Dundee United. Hearts boss Csaba Laszlo said: "It's a big chance for Jason. There is big competition and Eggert has used his chance and played some good games. Now the chance is back with Thomson. Jason knows 100% that he is first choice on Saturday and I don't think he will need any extra motivation." Another rival for the place would have been Robbie Neilson, but he is still a month away from returning from Achilles surgery. Laszlo said: "I think Robbie needs a little bit of time. I don't believe he will be back in the team quickly. Maybe in one month we can see him in the team but he needs time after the operation." Andy Driver is likely to require another week's rest before resuming training after his own Achilles problem. Laszlo said: "Driver will definitely not make this weekend. It's a big question when he will be available. We were very happy to hear he doesn't have a long-term problem but the doctors told me he needs another week. I hope next week he can train again. We have a slight problem with Adrian Mrowiec, while Deividas Cesnauskis and David Obua are also injured. We did not show our best form against Dundee United and to lose 3-0 was a very bad result. We will try everything to win the game against Kilmarnock."
Meanwhile, midfielder Ruben Palazuelos has been carrying out a damage limitation exercise after he was quoted as saying he would consider quitting the club in January if he did not reclaim his first-team spot. He now insists he is determined to stay and fight for his place at Tynecastle. Palazuelos said: "All I said was it was too early to talk about my future like this. We are only a few games into the season and all I want to do is work hard in training every day and try to force my way into the manager's plans. Ultimately, it is his decision who he puts out on a Saturday afternoon and I respect that. I want to speak to him to explain things and tell him that I am happy here with my family and happy to fight for my place. It is important that the supporters know that as well as they have been very good to me. We have had a pretty good start to the season despite the loss on Saturday and are sitting in third place in the league. I don't want to do anything to upset the manager or the dressing room. Why would I? It was the same at the start of last season. I didn't play for the first few matches but then played quite regularly. There's no reason why that can't happen again if I can keep working hard in training and doing my best when I get the opportunity." | Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba.net)
