Motherwell thought they could have Paul Slane back in contention for a place but that has been postponed.

Paul Slane's comeback bid has been put on hold after he was told he needs a second operation. The Motherwell midfielder underwent surgery six weeks ago to relieve pressure on his calf muscle and looked to be getting back to full fitness. But, all that has been stopped after he suffered further problems in training on Monday.

He said: "
It's obviously a big blow for this to happen again. I had the operation not so long ago and things had been going well. I had been doing my rehabilitation with physio John Porteous and after the international break I felt ready to join in full training. However, it looks as if the pressure problem I've been having hasn't been just my calf, but also my shins, and I had to stop. I went back to see the surgeon the same day and he has confirmed I need another operation. I'll hopefully have it soon though so I can get back to concentrating on football. I can't tell you how disappointing it has been."
