ayrAyr United need somebody to wear the 'keepers gloves after Graeme Smith turned down the chance to extend his spell at Somerset Park into a second season. The former Rangers, Ross County, Motherwell, Brighton and Hibs goalkeeper spent some time playing in Azerbaijan last year before joining Partick Thistle on a short term deal ahead of joining the Honest Men in February. Ayr player/ manager Mark Roberts had set resigning Smith as his number one priority this summer. Things did not go according to his plan as Smith is looking for full time football again. Roberts was also knocked back by former Partick Thistle, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and St Johnstone goalkeeper Jonny Tuffey who has decided to head home and sign for Linfield.

Roberts said: "It is disappointing to miss out on Graeme as he was great for us during his spell here. I would have liked to have had his experience at the back again but we will move on and get someone else in."
