Brechin breathed a huge sigh of relief last week as they managed to secure a 4-4 draw to get a second chance to see off Wick Academy in the Scottish Cup today.
Jim Duffy hopes to be able to welcome back Steven Canning and David Murie to his Brechin side for today's Scottish Cup replay against Highland League Wick Academy. The pair missed out on the first game because of work commitments. Unfortunately for manager Duffy, he cannot use winger Bobby Barr who has been in impressive form since joining the club as he is cup-tied. Brechin were just minutes away from their first defeat by a non-league side in almost 40 years when they rescued a 4-4 draw and set up this replay. He said: "They'll be bitterly disappointed not to have won the game last week but will be very optimistic that, if they perform like that again, they can still go through. We were hanging on by our fingernails, no question about it, but we are still there and we can play a lot, lot better." Wick Academy co-manager Ian Munro knows that they had a real chance last week but still believes the Highland League club are more than capable of making it to the Fourth Round of the Scottish Cup. He said: "We know we should have won it last Saturday, we let it slip in the last 10 minutes. There is competition for places all over the park and the players realise that they have to up their game to be wearing the shirt on the day - they are relishing the challenge just now. "It would be the biggest achievement in the club's history if we were to make it through to the Fourth Round. It would be fantastic for everybody involved with Wick and the whole of the county of Caithness." |
