Speak No Evil

The SFA don't see a problem with their disciplinary procedures which may be one of the biggest problems.
According to acting SFA president Campbell Ogilvie, there is no need for a drastic overhaul of the disciplinary procedures in Scotland. Ogilvie was responding to Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson's call for the ruling body to make wholesale changes to the way it runs the game. Dundee United are no strangers to being at loggerheads with the ruling body with manager Craig Levein well known for his views on officiating during games. He did not back down after his outburst at referee Mike McCurry at Ibrox last year or his clash with retiring whistler Stuart Dougal at Celtic Park last month. His club have been right behind him with the lat Eddie Thompson joining him in live criticism on the box in the past.
Eddie's son said: "You can't say anything and one of these days somebody will challenge someone under the Human Rights Act and win a case, just like Bosman changed the game. People have a right to say things within reason but just now you can't say anything without getting punished. We also had the farce at the end of last season with people getting sent off then having their cards rescinded or decisions postponed to the close season. There doesn't seem to be clear leadership. The whole disciplinary side needs to be reviewed."
Ogilvie, speaking after the SFA's annual general meeting at Hampden, where he was standing in for George Peat who is recovering from heart surgery, said: "I'm not going into individual comments but I don't think it (system) is Draconian. We've got to have regulations. It's all right to talk about freedom of speech but the SFA does have to have control, there has to be a balance to stop people going over the line. We do review it and it is an on-going process." | Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba.net)
