Smith Can't Wait For The Next Game

Naismith Celebrates IIRangers boss Walter Smith is looking ahead to the game against Valencia after his side ended their 11-game run without a win in Europe. He said: "There were a few disappointments last season in home games so it's nice to get a win. It was a terrific goal, a good header by Kirk Broadfoot and a good finish by Steven. We had started well and had one or two half-chances - I think we deserved to be in front at that time so we were delighted to get in front. In other games we have started well but not got in front, so it gave us something to hold on to. We did ever so well. These games are like cup ties - it's important to get the first goal.''

The win places Rangers and Manchester United, who defeated Valencia 1-0 , as joint leaders in Group C of the Champions League and Smith admitted he can't wait to take on the Primera Division outfit. Smith said: "
When Valencia come here (in their next Champions League game on October 20) it will be a big night for everyone. From our point of view it gives us another opportunity - but we appreciate they are an excellent side."

His captain David Weir went on: "
We were tight at the back and you've got to be at this level. That's the starting point - but there is still a lot of work to do and a lot of difficult games. I don't think it's relevant - we know how hard it is to get a win in the Champions League. We're delighted with start we've made. It gives us something to build on, hopefully we can get some confidence from it and progress as a team."

Bursaspor coach Ertugrul SaglamBursaspor coach Ertugrul Saglam claimed his side deserved to leave Ibrox with a point but said Rangers showed that they have a chance of qualifying through to the knockout stages of the competition. He said: "
If you look at the game in general we deserved a draw. If you consider that they scored and kept a clean sheet then they deserved to win but overall I think we deserved a draw. Manchester United won at Valencia, Rangers got a point at Manchester United and won their first home game. So Rangers have proved they are capable of going through to the next round but the other teams have proved that they are just as strong.''
