The forthcoming adventure in the First Division for Airdrie United is a powerful tool when discussing terms with players to agree new deals.

Fortuitously newly promoted Airdrie United have agreed new deals with Stephen McKenna and Darren Smith. Manager Kenny Black managed to persuade McKenna to stay with the club despite a number of clubs showing interest in gaining his services. Black said "Stephen played a big role for us last year and his development moved on at a great rate. He was unfortunate to miss out on the latter part of the season due to injury but I see him continuing that development next season. He has a great opportunity to progress in the game and I am pleased that he sees the next part of his career at Airdrie".

Black was pleased that he had secured Smith for the forthcoming season and said: "
I think that Darren showed more than enough last season to earn his chance at First Division level and it will be an exciting challenge for him. I think it is essential that we start building a core of young, hungry players to underpin the Club and I see Darren in this mould. These young players, in turn, will benefit from playing alongside players with a lot of experience at a higher level and that will now be the main focus of the further signings to come."
