Showing How It Should Be Done

C:WindowsTempphpB2E9.tmpHamilton manager Martin Canning knew he had signed a top professional in Massimo Donati when he saw the Italian play on with a broken nose. The former Celtic midfielder took a nasty bang to the face during last weekend's 4-2 Lanarkshire derby defeat to Motherwell. Canning admits he half expected to see Donati  call it quits at that point, with his team already three goals down after Well frontman Louis Moult helped himself to a 13-minute hat-trick. However,  the Accies player/manager was impressed to see Donati roll up his sleeves and stay on to help his team-mates. The veteran has even declared himself fit to face St Johnstone on Sunday despite facing a procedure to correct the fracture next week.

Canning said: "
Massimo broke his nose in last week's derby but the docs couldn't straighten it then because there was too much swelling. They told us that if they straightened it now it will just pop back out again so we have to wait. But Massimo still wants to play on Sunday and that says a lot about the guy. It was the same when the injury happened. We were 3-0 down in a derby and you could be forgiven for thinking the white flag might have come out. But he just got up and got on with it. His attitude though is first class and he just wants to play. Obviously if he gets a knock on it there will be some pain but he just wants to be involved."

Liam Craig, meanwhile, is looking for St Johnstone to turn cup disappointment into three points later today. The McDiarmid Park men were stunned in their Betfred Cup quarter-final tie against Aberdeen at Pittodrie in midweek when Adam Rooney headed in a last minute winner for the home side. The decisive goal came moments after Dons goalkeeper Joe Lewis had touched David Wotherspoon's 30-yard free-kick on to the post. Midfielder Craig said: "
As the game went on we seemed to nullify them to very little and we got stronger going forward. But in the end it wasn't quite good enough.  It was disappointing but we have to pick ourselves up now. We will use the disappointment to go to Hamilton on Sunday and hopefully get the three points. It is a game where we feel we can cause them problems. We have two hard away games coming up, Hamilton and Ross County, but this is a great opportunity for us to get three points."
