Motherwell will play a different game when Nancy arrive for the second leg of their UEFA Cup first round tie.

Motherwell welcome Nancy back for tea on Thursday for their second date and midfielder Steven McGarry is desperate to get a chance to show what he can do. Manager Mark McGhee left McGarry out of the UEFA Cup first round first leg as he opted for a safety-first approach in France 12 days ago. McGhee admitted the move did not play out as he anticipated as Nancy ran out 1-0 winners. McGarry hopes this harsh lesson means Motherwell will go for the jugular in Thursday night's return at Fir Park. McGarry said: "
I think the gaffer may have been in two minds on which way to play in the first leg. He said to us in the hotel before we left for the ground that he still wasn't sure which way to go and that kept everyone on their toes. Eventually, he opted for the 4-5-1 and explained we were going to be more defensive and look to play on the break. He told myself and Chris Porter just before the game we were being left out and we were gutted. You work so hard to get into Europe only to get a kick in the teeth like that. The gaffer, of course, was only doing his best for the team but it was still horrible and I don't want it to happen again. It's a sell-out and live on TV, these are the games you wait all your life to be involved in. The gaffer has hinted he may go for all-out attack. Hopefully, he will see me as an attacking midfielder."

As usual, pre-match comments from the respective managers have spiced up the encounter with McGhee unhappy with the lack of respect he felt Nancy and their manager Pablo Correa showed him prior to the first leg. The Well boss promised he would show the French club the meaning of respect this week before instructing his players to "
kick their teeth in" on the field. McGarry said: "The experience of the first leg was new to a few of us who hadn't played in in Europe before. We had nothing to compare it with and didn't notice. But the gaffer has lots of experience in Europe and must have felt he was treated differently."

The Nancy players want to stay out of the war of words but defender Frederic Biancalani has promised his team will show Motherwell the utmost respect this week. He said: "
I don't know anything about what the Motherwell manager said and it's an issue between him and our coach. As players, we can't get involved in it and the one thing I can say for certain is the Motherwell players will get respect from us. I feel we already gave them that in France and will do so again. They can have no complaints over how we will treat them because we do rate them and we do fear them. To feel any other way about a side who has qualified for the UEFA Cup would be dangerous. We want to win this game and believing we only need to turn up in Scotland to do so is crazy. We're expecting a real battle, a real fight to get into the group stages. Motherwell have a very strong group of players and an excellent goalkeeper who has kept them in this tie with his saves. They will want this as much as we do as there is a huge prize awaiting the side that goes through."
