Life in the First Division does not get any easier at the top or the bottom of the league
Second-bottom Ayr meet second top and unbeaten Raith Rovers but will be without Neil McGowan (suspended) and captain Andy Aitken, who has not played since the 2-0 defeat at Queen of the South last month, is still only rated as 50/50. Martyn Campbell did not play last week thanks to illness but is expected to be passed fit today. Manager Brian Reid said: "In an ideal world, I would like to bring in two or three players in January to make us better and then I could mix the pack up. I don't want us to become stranded. I know what I need but I don't have a pot of gold. Maybe we could have a whip round to help me get the players I need."

Raith Rovers are looking to find somebody to fill the gap in the strike force after Damian Casalinuovo's loan from Dundee United ended. The Argentinean delivered three goals in four games so will be a miss. Speaking yesterday, manager John McGlynn said: "It was always the plan to get someone in for longer than the month so it's something that we are continuing to address. Something might happen before Saturday, but there's no guarantee." McGlynn will have Darren Smith and Mark Campbell back in the squad for today's game. | Editor
