Scotland The Decent?

Should Scotland start looking for a new manager no matter what the result is tomorrow against Slovenia? Currently sitting on second bottom place with four points from four games, manager Gordon Strachan has called the meeting with second placed Slovenia, who have eight points, a 'must win' game.  Still maintaining the cheeky chappie persona in the run up to the game, Strachan appears relaxed when facing the press despite many pundits suggesting he will not be in the Scotland job for much longer.  These days managers who are in danger of being thanked for their efforts can be relaxed as another job, either with a club or in the media, will be offered to soften any blow to their pride.

Scotland have limited resources like many other small nations but while they seem to be able to get the best out of what they have to hand, Scotland still swagger into games thinking it will be a dawdle.  This thought usually last around five minutes when we see that the opposition can play a bit.  Scotland were booed off the park on Wednesday when they played Canada at Easter Road as part of the preparations for tomorrow's game.  They had to come back from being a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw. This result will impact on the size of the crowd at Hampden with assistant Scotland manager, and recently sacked Motherwell manager, Mark McGhee pleading with fans to come along with the following less than encouraging words: "I would only implore supporters to, at worst, come along and if we're rubbish, boo us . You never know, we might be decent and they might have something to cheer."

"
We might be decent" is hardly the battle cry of a side looking to win only their second qualifying game for the World Cup finals in Russia next year.  The solitary win was against Malta who are the strongest side Group F as they hold up then table with nil points from four games.  While all groups have their whipping boys, gone are the days when teams did not want Scotland to be in their group.  Scotland used to have a reputation for being aggressive; physical and tough to beat.  Not so much these days.  Is there any hope of needing to check out accommodation in Russia in 2018 or will the AirB&B pages of Russian locations be unbothered by Scottish search engines.  Only time will tell.
