The SNP are in the the middle of their Scottish election campaign when ministers are not allowed to make political commitments. First Minister Alex Salmond is sailling close to the wnd with his latest statement released to the press

Mr Salmond said: "Grassroots sports are an essential part of our communities and as we head toward great sporting events like the Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup we must support our young sports starts. Over the last four years the SNP has invested in community sports using cash from criminals to improve the facilities for our young people. A re-elected SNP Government will go further for our young sports stars. We will back SportScotland’s Youth Action Plan with £4 million for the youth action plan and we will review grassroots football development to ensure we are giving the right support to youth development at its earliest stages. Our cashback investments will see 20 new 3G pitches spring up across the country to improve local facilities. And we will continue our support for Scotland’s football supporters to help them look at further ways of building links with their clubs, club owners and continuing their key role in Scotland’s communities. Football is Scotland’s national game. It is important we support it and a re-elected SNP government will do just that."
