Derek McInnes is sticking with St Johnstone

St Johnstone manager Derek McInnes appears to be following his chairman's advice and wants to stay with the Perth side. Geoff Brown wanted McInnes to continue his learning with Saints for another year or two. McInnes has been linked with a move to West Brom but he has distanced himself from speculation and confirmed he wants to extend his contract in Perth. McInnes is an ex-Baggie after spending three years at the Hawthorns as a player and has been rumoured to be on their wanted list since Tony Mowbray was first mentioned as being the likely successor to Gordon Strachan at Celtic.

McInnes, who has 10 months remaining on his current Saints deal, said: "I am hoping to negotiate a new contract over the next few weeks or so. I see my immediate future here at St Johnstone. "I spoke to Geoff Brown, the chairman, on Tuesday and there's been no contact between the clubs. I trust the chairman absolutely. If there had been anything going on, he would have told me. I have 10 months left on my current deal and I am very happy here."
