Reviewing Signing Policy

Hearts want value for money and that does not happen if a player spends too much time on the treatment table rather than the pitch.
Hearts want to avoid buying players who spend too much time unavailable due to injury. They want to avoid signing anybody with injury problems as manager Csaba Laszlo is determined to build a robust squad for next season. The number of injuries incurred by players during last season annoyed the Hungarian, who was without Larry Kingston and Saulius Mikoliunas for much of the campaign, as he tried to mount a serious challenge. Kingston was the subject of sustained public criticism after being involved in just two games since February due to a persistent hamstring problem. Laszlo that any potential new signings will be scrutinised more closely before being offered contracts. The Hungarian hopes to build a deeper pool to allow established players proper time to rehabilitate from injury before being considered for a return to playing. He said: "I hope the board and the club think about this. We must look to go back and get players who are not injured so often. Then the injured players can have more time to rest. When the season goes to the end maybe the body is tired and we must look next season to have maybe a bigger squad." Laszlo is wary of replacing experienced names with young talent on a wholesale basis. Kingston is close to recovering from his hamstring problem, which resurfaced at Pittodrie earlier this month, and has been included in the Ghana squad for World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Sudan. Laszlo believes that recruiting others with similar stature to the African midfielder is essential. He went on: "Larry told me it was the same injury as before. You cannot always have young players. If we don't have big players we can have a problem next season." | Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba net)
