Revenge On Killie's Minds

kilmarnock jpegKilmarnock welcome Rangers tomorrow and manager Kenny Shiels wants his players to make amends for their last visit to Rugby Park. Rangers secured the SPL title in Ayrshire on the final day of last season with a convincing 5-1 win, with the visitors racing into a three-goal lead with just seven minutes gone. This time around, Sheils has a largely different team available this time around but is still keen to see his side dispel the memories of that performance with a positive display on Sunday. Asked whether the game would provide a chance to make amends, he said: "I would like to think so. There are not many of them who were playing to be fair, we have a new team now. It's a very immature team in terms of experience in the league. We can only do our best. They have to play against the Rangers players and forget about what club they represent and I think that will work in their favour."

Rangers dropped points in their last outing, a goalless draw against St Johnstone at Ibrox, but have won all their games on the road so far this season. This sort of form does not make Killie's task any easier. Shiels went on: "When you have won all your away games, I don't think you have a point to prove. They have been consistently very good away from home, they are a very resilient, hard-working team and that's traditional of the club. We will endeavour to match that. At home, Rangers have dropped points against the so-called lesser teams. It's a measure of how well teams go and perform at Ibrox. It might be the arena and the atmosphere and the environment. Away from home, Rangers seem to play that solid, counter-attacking game."

Shiels believes Kilmarnock can take encouragement from the 3-3 draw with Celtic, having ran away to a three-goal lead. He said: "We can look at that and see that we have had good experiences against the Old Firm in the past, where we have played really well. If everyone does their best that's all we can ask. We can't ask them to give any more than 100%."

Rangers could throw new signing Sone Aluko into Sunday's clash at Kilmarnock after the former Aberdeen winger signed this week. Shiels said: "Sometimes he has impressed and sometimes he hasn't. He has been on the losing team against us and he has also been on the winning team when they beat us 5-0 at the beginning of the year. He's a decent player and I'm sure he will benefit Rangers."
