Race Is On

C:WindowsTempphp80C3.tmpSt Johnstone midfielder Chris Millar does not think Aberdeen's title challenge is likely to fade. The Dons cut the gap to the Premiership leaders to three points with Wednesday night's 2-0 Pittodrie win. The result has heaped fresh pressure on under-fire Parkhead manager Ronny Deila. But Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes claims no-one in Scotland truly believes his side are capable of pipping Celtic to the title. Millar, though, is convinced the title race is now a genuine two-horse affair. Millar, who will attempt to do Celtic a favour when his Saints side hosts Aberdeen in Perth tomorrow, said: "You'd be naive to think Aberdeen can't win the title. They've got two players for every position. Derek's put together a really good squad there. So if people want to think that, and if people at Celtic want to think that - which I don't for a second think they will - then they're kidding themselves. Aberdeen are three points behind Celtic in February, it's definitely a title race."

Millar's comments will not phase Aberdeen defender Ash Taylor, who is determined to let other people talk up their chances while they just focus on playing. The centre-back said: "It makes for an exciting end to the season but we just wanted to make progress. We didn't manage to beat Celtic last season and we have done it a couple of times this season, and it shows the progress we are making. We want to continue to make that progress. The expectation rises every time you win a game. We are expected to win nowadays because of the performances we are putting in and the type of lads we are and the group we have got. We have just got to keep putting in the performances."

Taylor and his team-mates did not dwell on their win over Celtic and the defender was even frustrated that he could not keep a clean sheet after Leigh Griffiths hit a late goal for the visitors. He went on: "As soon as the game finished, our focus was straight on St Johnstone. That's the important game now and it won't mean anything if we can't get a result tomorrow. It was a good result for us but we have moved on to St Johnstone now. The changing room is confident and we are excited for the next game."
