C:WindowsTempphpC24F.tmpWith today, 29 January 2019, marking 500 days to go until the start of UEFA EURO 2020, aspiring volunteers from across Glasgow and Scotland are being encouraged to play a part in this unique edition of the Championship.

Glasgow is one of 12 cities that will host UEFA EURO 2020 in June and July 2020, with Hampden Park the host venue for three group games and a round of 16 match on 15, 19, 23 and 30 June 2020. This is the first time in the competition’s history that it will be held in this format to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Championship.

Julie Fleeting, Scotland’s record goal scorer and Scottish Football Hall of Fame inductee, helped to mark the occasion and urged anyone interested in volunteering at the event to register online at www.scottishfa.co.uk/euro2020.  Fleeting said: "For me, volunteers gave me such a positive start to my football career; if it hadn’t been for volunteers I wouldn’t have had the journey I’ve had in the sport. This is an opportunity to be part of a huge event that will be watched by millions, it will give you memories that will last a lifetime. Register your interest now and be part of it."

SFA Chief Executive Ian Maxwell said: "
With only 500 days to go until the first ball is kicked at UEFA EURO 2020 we continue to work hard to prepare for the tournament and welcome Europe’s footballing elite to the national stadium. Our mission is to inspire a nation to love football, and hosting EURO 2020 gives us the opportunity to do that. Volunteers are the backbone of Scottish football and I’d like to encourage everyone to register their interest in volunteering and be the first to know when applications launch.”

Councillor David McDonald, Depute Leader of Glasgow City Council and Chair of Glasgow Life, said: "
It seems like just a short time ago our city was announced as one of the UEFA EURO 2020 hosts, and the remaining 500 days until the competition kicks off will fly by just as quickly. Glasgow is renowned worldwide for our sporting reputation, and our ability to host spectacular sporting events which are enjoyed by athletes and spectators alike. UEFA EURO 2020 is another opportunity for our city to further cement its reputation as a world-class sporting city and to show visitors from across the continent our famous Glasgow welcome."

Things are looking positive for Alex McLeish’s men as they finished top of their UEFA Nations League Group and secured a place in the UEFA EURO 2020 qualifying play-offs in March 2020. Preparation for the tournament is well underway with a number of upgrades to Hampden Park already made, including new giant video screens, and award-winning Skybox and Skylounge hospitality facilities.  The city will be in festival mode; fan zones will welcome thousands to enjoy entertainment, guaranteeing a great experience for fans, families and visitors alike.
