HotScots can now secure promotion to the GFSN Division One with a draw or win at home to Newcastle Falcons on Saturday 5th May.
Traveling with a small squad, HotScots faced an uphill task after only ten minutes when Ballbois took the lead from a header after a long throw into the box. But the visitors were soon back on level terms – capitalising on a mistake by the goalkeeper who failed to deal with a wayward back pass. HotScots then moved into the lead from the first of the penalty kicks. Back came Ballbois from another set piece, with a free kick somehow making its way through a ruck of players and into the bottom of the net. As half time approached, HotScots went back in front after the second penalty award of the afternoon. This time the penalty had to be taken twice due to encroachment into the penalty box – but it made no difference and HotScots went in at the interval 3 v 2 in front.
Going into the second half, HotScots looked likely to extend their lead with some clever counter-attacking football. But they suffered a double-blow losing a centre half to injury, and then his replacement to a red card for handball preventing a goal-scoring opportunity. That incident also brought about the third penalty of the match – and HotScots got a break as the Ballbois striker blasted over the bar from the spot. And despite having to see out the final 30 minutes with ten men, the visitors remained composed in possession and dangerous on the counter-attack. Ballbois could not conjure up another equaliser and HotScots completed a deserved and crucial victory.
