Nothing To Go On

Colin Calderwood and Craig Brown will be in opposite dug-out for the second time in six weeks but this time it is the former who will be acting as host to the latter's new team. Calderwood steered Hibs to a 2-1 victory over Motherwell but now faces Brown as he takes charge of Aberdeen for the first time since replacing Mark McGhee earlier this month. Calderwood said: "It's an intriguing one. You've got no idea of formation or personnel. They only viewed the game against Hearts so it's not even like the start of the season because you would have had some pre-season reports." Calderwood, whose time as Hibs manager began with a 4-2 loss at Aberdeen, was not surprised to see Brown and his assistant Archie Knox - assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson as the Dons enjoyed domestic and European success in the 1980s - move to Pittodrie. Calderwood said: "It's obviously something that's really tweaked his interest buds and his enthusiasm for it. I can understand why they've ended up there. Obviously Archie's got an association there. It's a terrific job."

Aberdeen are bottom of the table with Hibs able to open up an eight-point advantage with a win today. And Calderwood is not surprised by the predicament the Dons find themselves in. He said: "The only thing surprising about Aberdeen being there is the success and the quality of Mark McGhee as a manager. You can't be surprised with the results. The size of the club doesn't matter. There's no divine right for any club, it's the results on the pitch
." Calderwood hopes his side can turn their form around in the space of six days and is setting a target a top-six finish this season. Following today's game against the Dons, Hibs meet Dundee United on Wednesday and Hearts in the New Year's Day derby at Tynecastle. Calderwood said: "We've got to get top six, at least. It was the goal when we came in and it's still the goal. Small signs of improvement will always help, but there's nothing to celebrate until you get your league position at the end of the season."
