Football men with money are not exactly rushing to call David Murray offering to invest in Rangers. David Gold is steering well clear.

With Rangers looking for a buyer, they will have look beyond Former Birmingham chairman David Gold who has ruled out the idea of making a move for the troubled side. The club are reported to be struggling under the weight of debts totalling some £30million. Investment is now sorely needed in order to prevent the crisis from deepening. Many believe exiled Scottish businessman Dave King is the leading contender to replace David Murray at the Ibrox helm. However, King has other things to worry about at the moment as he is facing a series of tax-evasion charges in South Africa.

Gold, who recently sold his shares in the Blues to Carson Yeung, had also been suggested as an alternative bidder. However, heclaims he has no intention of turning his attention to Scottish football. Gold believes the Gers' current woes are the result of a deep-rooted problem engrained in Scottish football which will prevent SPL clubs, in particular Celtic and Rangers, from rediscovering the glory days of their past. He said: "
It has never crossed my mind to buy into Rangers. It makes sad reading to see the financial difficulties they are suffering. I think the good times are over for the Old Firm. They will sometimes play to packed housed and will still go head-to-head for the SPL title. But their fans won't be watching the standard of player they once had"
