Players like to play and the money side of things is not always the most important thing.

East Stirlingshire are not a rich club and it says a lot for the players that they are willing to take a pay cut to carry on playing for them. Coach Jim McInally has managed to persuade six players already to sign new deals that will keep them at the club until May 2010. He is hopeful he can persuade the four who have given verbal confirmation that they will stay to put pen to paper. Talks are ongoing with the rest of the squad who were given the option of staying for another season.

He said: "
My aim is to keep the majority of last season's squad together and maybe add three or four new faces. Last season we cleared the decks and I think that is part of the reason we started the season so badly. If we get a bit of continuity then we could get off to a better start and that could make all the difference".

The coach has been pleased with the positive response from his players. He was not looking forward to breaking the bad news but the reaction has been better than he hoped. He went on: "
I thought when we were asking players to take a cut in wages it might be difficult and that some would choose their luck elsewhere. But, the response has been great and it shows that they have enjoyed their time at the club and want to stay for the right reasons. Things have worked out well so far, and that's good."
