There will be no lack of tension at New St Mirren Park today as the Buddies strive to avoid losing by two goals.

There are not just two teams playing for their SPL lives today. While Inverness Caledonian Thistle and playing Falkirk in the Highland capital St Mirren will be working hard not to lose by two goals in their final league game of the season against Hamilton. If Falkirk win and Hamilton win by two clear goals it will be St Mirren heading down into the First Division. St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson is looking to recapture the kind of performance from last week's game at Falkirk. The Buddies will be assured of their top-flight status with a draw against Hamilton at St Mirren Park. But MacPherson is looking for a really positive display and wants the fans and players to use last weekend`s win as a template for success as St Mirren search for their first SPL win at their new stadium. Hamilton were the last visitors to lose an SPL game in Paisley, and that was at Love Street in December. The St Mirren players were roared on to a 2-0 win at Falkirk, which took them off the bottom, taking the game by the scruff of the neck in the first minute.

MacPherson said: "
We will approach it in exactly the same manner we did last week against Falkirk. The players set a standard last week that we want to maintain. They made demands of each other and will look to do the same." St Mirren had slumped to the bottom following disappointing home defeats by Motherwell and Inverness and MacPherson has urged his players to make amends. He said: "They were down after a couple of poor performances and results. Last week it was very, very quiet and subdued. This week there is not doubt the training has been more high tempo. That`s a good sign as well. We`ve said to the players that`s got to be carried into the games. The most important thing was the tempo of the game last week. We started the game really well and continued it."

Saints fans were buying the few dozen remaining tickets for home sections right up until the last possible second and MacPherson went on: "
There will be a full house, a fantastic turnout from our home support. We have got to make sure we give them something to see. There have been some disappointing performances at home and they will be looking at last week thinking `why is that happening away from home and not at home?` If we are going to start moving forward as a club we have to sort out our home record." Craig Dargo will not be available due to the thigh injury that has kept him out in recent weeks. Jim Hamilton, Steven Robb, Chris Smith and Tom Brighton also remain on the sidelines.

With their SPL status safe for another season Billy Reid has started his recruitment drive early as the Hamilton boss watched Aston Villa's second string beat Sunderland to win the Barclays Premier Reserve League. Reid was at Villa Park to cast his eye over some of the talent on show, having already stated his plan to bring up to eight players to New Douglas Park this summer. Despite masterminding Hamilton's successful bid to stay in the SPL following their promotion - the first time the club have achieved the feat - Reid expects a huge turnaround of playing staff this summer.

A number of out-of-contract players will move on - Chris Swailes has already been released - while the club will sell some of their young stars if the price is right. Hamilton's survival was secured last weekend but they may have been safe a lot sooner had an injury crisis not hit their squad earlier this year. Reid knows he needs a larger player pool next season. he said: "
We've got some targets and we're just checking up on them. We'll go and add to the squad so we'll look to get maybe eight players. I now know what I need to remain in the league and progress next year." Richard Offiong is a doubt for today's game of the season at St Mirren as he continues to struggle with a knee injury and may not be risked at St Mirren Park, with Accies safe from relegation. Trent McClenahan is back in his native Australia awaiting a hernia operation, while fellow defender David Elerrt (hamstring) remains a doubt.
