The weather in Scotland was the winner yesterday and toady as games were called off. Safety of fans has to come into the equasion.

Despite their pitch being playable, Aberdeen called off their Homecoming Cup tie against East Fife due to be player yesterday. The club took the view that the road conditions for travelling fans would put lives in danger if the game was allowed to go ahead. The club made the decision with the blessing of the SFA. Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood said: "I think it's a decision you can understand. It took me about an hour to get back yesterday and there must have been loads and loads of accidents - and that's the last thing you want." Aberdeen Operations manager John Morgan said: "Yesterday we got the weather forecast, which showed that there was going to be snow overnight. We were in at 7.30am and checked with Grampian Police. The roads round about and north and south were pretty poor. After consultation with the SFA, the game was called off."

The Pittodrie surface was actually playable, but Morgan added: "
I think on the grounds of safety, there was no alternative for me other than to put the game off. Unfortunately, the only bit of green round about Pittodrie is the pitch! It's in perfect condition. But, unfortunately, it's not safe for the spectators." The game will now take place at Pittodrie on Tuesday, February 17 with a 7.45pm kick-off.
