St Johnstone may yet lose their manager but chairman Geoff Brown thinks he can hang onto his man.

St Johnstone do not want to lose their promotion winning manager and enter the SPL while searching for a new man. Saints chairman Geoff Brown is hoping that the speculation over the interest from West Brom in Derek McInnes to replace Tony Mowbray is merely that and will not turn into a formal approach. Last year was McInnes' first in management and his chairman thinks a move down south would be a step too far at this stage of his career. Brown wants McInnes to carry on learning his trade at McDiarmid Park before testing himself elsewhere. The former Baggies captain would be a popular choice among many West Brom fans but Brown is confident he can hold on to his manager.

He said: "
There have been no approaches from West Brom and I don't believe there will be. I think the job would be too early for Derek, because he has only been here since a year past in November. He has done very well for St Johnstone, but I don't think he has been tested to the limits yet. I don't believe it is the right time for Derek to move."
