No Luck For Hamilton

When you are at the wrong end of the table Lady Luck seems to desert your cause.
Hamilton manager Billy Reid is pointing to a defensive mix-up as the main reason for Hearts keeping all three points from the 1-0 win for the home side at Tynecastle. Hearts are now in fourth place in the SPL after Christian Nade scored in the sixth-minute what turned out to be the winner in a scrappy game. It could be argued that bottom-placed Accies deserved a point but instead delivered their seventh defeat in eight games. Reid feels his team are not getting any of the breaks going in their games, but admitted the only goal of the game was preventable. Nade was just onside when he picked up Bruno Aguiar's flick on from Lee Wallace's long ball. As the Frenchman raced towards goal, centre-half Martin Canning caught up with him but as he and goalkeeper Tomas Cerny hesitated Nade managed to stick out a boot and knock the ball past the 'keeper for what proved the winning goal.
Reid said: "I think Canning and the keeper could have prevented the goal. I think Martin has done really, really well to get himself back in goal-side. But I think he has got to clear it. He's hesitated and that hesitation has given Nade the opportunity to just slip it in front of the goalkeeper. So it's a mistake and I've said to the players that mistakes at this level will be costly. It's certainly cost us in this game, cost us a point. I think Martin was waiting for Tomas to come out, but you can't wait for your keeper, you've just got to deal with it. He's done well to get goal-side because I think Nade had a couple of yards on him. He's just got to take everything, I think he was scared in case he pulled him down. We've not been out of games, not been out-classed, that's two games against Hearts where they have beaten us by a single goal. It's a learning process but we have to learn quickly."
Hearts counterpart Csaba Laszlo was not in the mode to argue and praised Hamilton and feels his side are riding their luck a bit after back-to-back wins. He said: "I compliment Hamilton, they didn't play like a team at the bottom, they were very open, came out and looked for chances. But we scored. We can talk for two hours about the game, but I think if you win every game 1-0 you can be a champion and if you lose every game 1-0 you'll be relegated. At the moment, we have the luck, definitely. It was not our best game." | Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba net)
