Cowdenbeath rose to the top of the Second Division thanks to a late penalty by substitute Scott McBride which snatched a win against Clyde at Broadwood.
Cowdenbeath came into their stride in the second half after a less than spectacular first 45 minutes and Paul McQuade twice went close, hitting the side netting and then rattling the crossbar.
The Bully Wee also went close when Ally Park's netbound header was clawed away. A shot by Cowden's Joe Mbu struck Alan Lithgow's arm (89 mins) and Scott McBride hammered home the resulting penalty.
Clyde are the team that inflicted Cowden's worst ever competitive defeat (11-1 in the 1950's in the old B Division) but now the length of the league divides the two C's with the Fifers aloft in 1st place and the Cumbernauld (former Rutherglen) side now bottom of the table.
Next for Cowden it's Dumbarton at home and the Central Park outfit are now the team to beat in Div 2. Former Hibs player, now Cowden boss, Danny Lennon has got them playing some neat stuff and with that all important luck factor seemingly smiling on the side since they were promoted by default in August (due to Livingston's financial crisis that saw the West Lothian club demoted) the future seems bright as the self styled Blue Brazil look towards their 105th year as a League club in 2010.
Lennon is still on track to bring home only Cowden's second league title since 1939 and their first since fellow Hibby Mixu Paatelainen guided the Fifers to the 3rd Division Championship in 2006.
Still a long way to go in the race for promotion but Cowden once again posted their title aspirations this weekend to claim a sixth match on the bounce undefeated.
