Partick Thistle have created a new post for Ian McCall’s former right hand man. Ian Maxwell has been handed the role of general manager at the Firhill club. Maxwell, who was player/assistant manager, was overlooked when Jackie McNamara was appointed interim team manager after McCall resigned two weeks ago. However, he was delighted to accept the newly created position.
Maxwell said: "The term General Manager is a bit vague but as the Board have explained I will be working in a role between the football management and the Club Board. That is something that we perhaps have not had in the past. I expect that the job will comprise of a wide variety of different roles and tasks from dealing with day to day football administration and looking at various commercial aspects. It all sounds quite exciting. I am also liaising with those involved with doing work on our much talked pitch during the summer."
