Nap Hand For The New Year

C:WindowsTempphp14CE.tmpHamilton player-manager Alex Neil was rather pleased after seeing his side thrash Motherwell 5-0 at New Douglas Park today to start the New Year off with a bang. Dougie Imrie, Ali Crawford, Mickael Antoine-Curier, Tony Andreu and Danny Redmond were on target as Accies recorded their biggest win over their Lanarkshire rivals in 80 years. Neil said afterwards: "It doesn't get much better, but then I said that after the 4-0 game. The players were first class and I thought we were dominant throughout the game. It's probably as complete a performance as I have seen us put in and it doesn't get much better. We had five different scorers and to be honest it could have been more. We had a lot of real good chances and at times we were a bit wasteful. It's pleasing to say that when you have just scored five. I thought the work ethic and the quality all came together and we showed how good we can be."

Motherwell manager Ian Baraclough, suffering his first defeat since taking over from Stuart McCall, said: "Alex's team gave him everything, they fought for every ball and came out on top in every area. I said in the dressing room there that, before any game starts, you must concentrate on the fundamentals, and one of the first things I said when I first came in was that I wanted people who were prepared to work hard and roll up their sleeves, particularly when the chips are down. We didn't start well, we gave ourselves a mountain to climb, and I learnt one or two more things about the players. I hate that phrase 'wanted it more'. And at times that's how it looks, but if you don't win your individual battles physically, you are going to get done, and we didn't. Alex's team were well on top for every little scrap."
