January coming up focuses minds on what moves should be made during the transfer window.
Motherwell manager Jim Gannon wants to clarify the position beyond January of keeping Charlton right-back Yassin Moutaouakil at Fir Park. Depending on the outcome of the discussions with Moutaouakil's agent will allow Gannon to make up his mind about going after Derry defender Ger O'Brien. O'Brien is free to move after City were expelled from the League of Ireland over contract irregularities. But Gannon still remains hopeful of extending Moutaouakil's loan spell beyond January. He said: "We have got to sit down with Yass and his agent and discuss Yassin's position. There is a fear we might lose these quality loan players and they might go back to their clubs or other clubs. So we do have to express a lot of interest in a lot of players and Ger O'Brien is a player I know is available now and can do a good job here. I have spoken to (Derry manager) Stephen Kenny about it but a deal is a long way off and it all depends on the situation with Yassin." Gannon is also looking to tie up Everton duo of loanees John Ruddy and Lukas Jutkiewicz beyond January. Gannon went on: "I've been able to sit down with the chairman and discussed the bigger picture, and explained how I'd like to see the squad developing. It's just a question of sitting down with nearly every player at the club over the next two or three weeks to explain where we see the club going and what part they have got to play in it, and that includes the loan players." |
