Aberdeen were no match for in-form Motherwell tonight in the last of the 2017 League Cup semi-finals. The home side enjoyed a 3-0 win over the Dons as visiting goalkeeper Joe Lewis had a night to forget at Fir Park. Lewis fumbled Louis Moult's hooked effort into his own net and spilled Peter Hartley's header as the defender scored his first goal for Motherwell to put them two up inside 19 minutes. Aberdeen, finalists in both cup competitions last season, never recovered and Moult, the subject of a failed bid in the summer by the Dons, heaped more misery on their goalkeeper by firing a third inside the near post with five minutes left. Motherwell were rewarded for a vibrant display with their fourth consecutive home win and first semi-final since 2011 as Aberdeen suffered their first domestic defeat of the season. |
