Scotland appears to be a hunting ground for fresh talent for European clubs at the moment with Hamilton's James McCarthy the subject of a move from Palermo.
Hamilton manager Billy Reid expects James McCarthy to stay with the SPL's newest member despite being approached about a move to Palermo in Italy. McCarthy, who recently penned a two-year contract extension at New Douglas Park, has been the subject of interest from the likes of Liverpool and Reading in the past but nothing concrete came of it. Reid said of the recent news: "We have not had any contact from Palermo. As far as we are concerned there is no business. Young James will remain a Hamilton player I think this season, we hope he will. If an offer comes in we will certainly look at it, but as far as we are concerned there is no offer in as yet."
However, Palermo appear to be serious with president Maurizio Zamparini explaining that an approach for his signature had been made. Zamparini said: "We have been following James for some time. We know all about his capabilities as a player. We have been told his valuation has risen to €5million (around £4million) but we have made an offer to Hamilton based on what we are prepared to pay. We are now waiting to see what happens in the next few weeks." | Editor Ger Harley (ger@scottishfitba net)
