HotScots FC, Scotland's premier LGBT friendly football club, have been nominated for "Sports Award of the Year" at the annual Stonewall awards to be held at the V&A in London on Thursday 5th November.

HotScots representatives will rub shoulders with fellow nominees including Beth Ditto, Boyzone, Paul O'Grady and events host Gok Wan as the rise of the club continues to be recognised. Over the past year, the team have done well in their first full league season, finishing 6th, and in May won the national GFSN Cup at the first time of asking. It's a remarkable measure of the development of a club which has just celebrated its 2nd anniversary.

Off the field, the team have also worked hard to develop the social and interactive side of the club. A new website has been launched, the club have attended university fresher fairs and the team have worked hard to raise money for their nominated charity "cash for kids", working with Radio Forth in Edinburgh.

The HotScots chairman, Kevin Rowe, is looking forward to the glittering event. He said "We're absolutely delighted to be getting this kind of recognition. When I set the club up I wanted to have an organisation that took its development seriously, both off and on the field. While we have exceeded our own expectations on the field, I'm even more pleased with the numbers of people in Scotland showing interest and taking part in the team and its events. Over the last 2 years, more than 100 different people have participated in training, games or open events, and long may this development continue. While it would be marvellous to win the award, we've got some very strong competition! The club is just thrilled to be nominated."

The other nominees in the Sports category are Hope Powell, the England women's football coach, the Kings Cross Steelers RFC, four-times World Pool Champion, Allison Fisher and Michael Hill the motorcyclist.
