TV money keeps football afloat these days so no wonder there is an interest in the stability of Setanta.
| The SPL have confirmed Setanta are up to date with payments due for televising their games. Reports on Wednesday claimed the Irish-based broadcasters are looking to renegotiate their agreement with the Football Association for the rights to the FA Cup and have withheld an instalment of £10million out of the £150million deal. That has sparked fears the company are struggling financially, which could ultimately impact on their arrangement with the SPL. Their current deal with Scotland's top flight runs until 2010 and is worth £54.5million to the SPL, while last summer they agreed a new contract worth a £125million until 2014. In a statement, an SPL spokesman said: "We are in regular touch with Setanta and are aware of the broader issues they face. Our contract with Setanta is confidential like all our commercial contracts. But we confirm that they are fully up to date with all their payments." | |
