The Buddies have a chance to banish the thoughts of their game against Celtic at the weekend in tonight's Co-operative Insurance Cup game

St Mirren boss Danny Lennon is looking forward to a different result tonight from that suffered at the hands of Celtic at the weekend. The Buddies travel to Dingwall to face Ross County in the Co-operative Insurance Cup second-round tie with a different line-up to that which slumped to a 4-0 defeat on Sunday. Striker Paul McGowan is back in contention after being ineligible to play against the Parkhead club, due to the terms of his loan deal, and hit-man Michael Higdon returns from suspension. Lennon, who still harbours hopes of signing former Rangers and Plymouth striker Alan Gow to his squad, said he hopes to see a different performance against last season's Active Nation Scottish Cup finalists.
The St Mirren boss said: "Paul McGowan is a big player for us as is Michael Higdon, who is a massive presence. They will be back which will be a big help for us and Craig Dargo also got 90 minutes under his belt against Celtic. It's no hidden secret, we were down to the bare bones at Celtic Park. All in all, we had six under-21s in the squad. But we can look forward to being more positive in this game as we will have more firepower. It's going to be a very difficult game but it has the makings of a good match." Lennon insists there is no hangover from Sunday's beating at Parkhead. He said: "It's great to get a game so soon after the beating we got on Sunday. Don't get me wrong, we were very disappointed. It was a bad, bad day for us although Celtic were very good. But we had the players in on Monday and had a double session today so we are ready to go again."
Both sides know what it is like to reach the final stages of a cup competition from recent experience. Under former boss Gus MacPherson, Saints reached the final of the Co-operative Insurance Cup last season only to lose to Rangers. The Buddies will face an Irn-Bru First Division side who knocked out Celtic in the semi-finals of the Active Nation Scottish Cup last season before losing to Dundee United in the final. But Lennon is not thinking about another final appearance for his new side just yet. He said: "We are only looking at one game at a time and the game against Ross County is all we are thinking about. They showed what they were all about last season with the scalps they took on their cup run, so it will be a tough match."
