The latest from Vladimir Romanov must come under the heading of cruel and unusual punishment

Now the dust has settled a bit after his sacking as national coach, Tynecastle owner Vladimir Romanov appears determined to continue a personal vendetta against George Burley. Romanov is no stranger to controversial statements but his latest appears to top the bill of controversial statements. The Hearts owner claims that Burley only got the Scotland job because of the "damage he had done to Hearts". The 'damage' of being sacked after taking the Edinburgh side to the top of the league obviously still rankles with  Romanov and he didn't waste time in adding his boot to those kicking a man when he is down.

Romanov said: "The time Burley spent at the helm of the national team demonstrated again that Scottish football has no future while it continues to be dominated by the clubs from Glasgow. It is not surprising he was sacked – I was shocked when he was hired. He was awarded the Tartan Army boss' position for the damage he had done to Hearts. With him in the driving seat of the national team and with the Old Firm controlling the situation, Scottish football has made another step down in its negative development."
