Henrik Larsson to manage Swedish side Landroskrona Bois
|
Former Celtic striker Henrik Larsson has taken up his first managerial appointment. Larsson will manage Swedish second division side Landroskrona Bois. On his appointment he said: "I am very flattered by this offer, given that I don’t have any bigger experience as a coach. I look forward to it and we’ll see where I can take this."
The 106 times capped Swede won the Champions League with Barcelona in 2006 beating Arsenal 2-1 in Paris.Whilst at Celtic he won four SPL titles scoring 242 goals on the way. During a spell at Manchester United he won the Premier League Championship in 2007. In October he hinted that he would like to return to Celtic in a coaching role. He said at the time: "I talk a lot with Celtic, although nothing is happening at the moment. Everyone knows what my feelings are for the club. I will go to Scotland sooner or later."
Larsson retired as a player in October this year. His final game for Helsingborg on 28 October ended in defeat 2-0 at home to Djurgarden. He was given a standing ovation after the match and as he fought back the tears he said that his decision to retire had left an "emptiness". Helsingborg decided to retire the number 17 shirt in his honour and of this he said: "It’s a fantastic gesture by the club, to retire it forever. I’m very moved."
So a big change now lies ahead for a man who as a footballer was adored and loved by the supporters of all the clubs he played for and was admired and respected by many others. He was also an excellent role model to millions of kids worldwide. We must wish him every success in his future career and if he can put half into management that he successfully did as a player I’m sure he will be an asset to any club he manages.
