Not many people make an instant difference when they become manager and expectations have to be managed.
| Looking at his opposite number ahead of today's game, Hamilton manager Billy Reid is backing Tony Mowbray to make a success of the Celtic job if he is given enough time to make a difference. Mowbray took over from Gordon Strachan in the summer and the fans are already asking if he is the right man to take them forward. Uninspiring league results along with disappointment in Europe have added to his woes. The 1-0 home defeat to Hamburg in the Europa League leaves Celtic with little hope of progressing from the group which would have eased the pressure for a while. However, Reid insists the criticism which is coming Mowbray's way at the moment is nothing new for an Old Firm manager. The Accies boss said: "I thought some of the stick Gordon Strachan got was totally unjust, I thought the guy did a fantastic job. Tony Mowbray has come into the job and his team plays slightly differently from Gordon Strachan's and I think he will take time to bed things in. But that's the way he sets his team out to play and I don't think Tony will change for anybody. Tony Mowbray is a fantastic person and he's a good manager and he will get it right - I guarantee that."
Mowbray is not a man to be fazed by pressure and is relying on some sage advice from Sir Alex Ferguson to see him through the tricky start to his time at Parkhead. Celtic are looking to find their first win in five games, and Mowbray recalled some wise words from the Manchester United boss. He said: "Look at some of the results in the first eight or nine (league) games of this season, us drawing against Dundee United and Motherwell. You look at Rangers' results as well - they have had draws that they would like to have turned in to wins. That suggests that, particularly early on in the season when adrenaline is still high, people can make it very difficult for you. I heard Sir Alex talking about championships not being won in October and November, but in March and April. That's why I don't really feel the pressure. I know that if we can win the championship this year and add a cup to it or two, people will not be as critical. We know where we are going with this group of players - and I hope, as time moves on, we will all enjoy it." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
