Rodney Sneijder revealed that he took the advice of his older brother, Wesley, when he agreed to join Dundee United but the new Tannadice signing is keen to play down comparisons between the two. Rodney is seven years younger than his sibling, who has played in the World Cup final for Holland and won the Champions League with Inter Milan under Jose Mourinho.However, the former Ajax and Utrecht midfielder said that he is eager to prove a point to some back in his homeland and make a name for himself on Tayside.
Sneijder said: "I spoke with him (Wesley) every day and he said ‘you have to do it. It is good for you – it is a good step in your career’. Nice club, a big club with good competition. In Holland when they saw me play and I scored two times it was not enough because my brother was better and better. I don’t want to talk about my brother. I am Rodney, he is Wesley and I play for Dundee United and I am very happy here and he plays in Turkey."
Rodney said United have already gained at least one new supporter as a result of his move, with Wesley expected to visit Tannadice to watch his brother turn out for his new side. He went on: "He told me yesterday when he is free and when we play a game he is coming to Dundee."
Elsewhere, United striker Robbie Muirhead said he was shocked when he found out his 40-yard strike for Scotland U19s against Norway U19s last year earned him a spot on the shortlist for UEFA’s goal of the year alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar. He is now hoping to finish in the top three during voting in a bid to be invited to UEFA’s award ceremony and to have a chance of winning the top prize. Muirhead said: "I was shocked myself; I just need to see what happens. This is maybe the only time I’ll ever be on the same list as those types of players and I just hope I can make the most of it."
