It's derby day on Saturday with East Fife making the short trip to Central Park in a noon showdown with the Blue Brazil and the home side will be strengthened by the return of David Hay and Gareth Wardlaw.
It has been a mixed start to the season for the Methil side but East Fife returned to form last weekend with a 2-1 home win against Stenhousemuir. Despite the slow start to the season, East Fife are expected to be challenging for promotion come the end of the season thanks to a squad packed with experienced campaigners such as Michael Brown, Goran Stanic, Scott Thomson, Jamie McCunnie, Stevie Crawford, Bobby Linn and Paul McManus. East Fife have taken over from Dunfermline (six miles from Cowdenbeath) as The Blue Brazil's main local rivals due mainly to four divisions now operating in Scotland and Cowden hardly ever getting a chance to play their traditional neighbours from East End Park. It was in the 90's that the rivalry really got going between The Blue Brazil and The Methil Milan when East Fife fans penned a song that was less than complimentary to showers and Cowdenbeath residents who used them, or didn't, according to Methilites. It's something of folklore now in the lower divisions in Scotland- sang to the tune of the Addams Family TV Show/Movie it focuses on Cowdenbeath being dirty and smelly, near Lochgelly and residents not having a telly and that's just the first verse. You'll hear the full version at Central Park today no doubt. However, Cowden fans will tell you that "winning ugly" will suit them just fine today and with it being a derby expect the boots to fly and the pace to be on a par with those Stock Cars that will be whizzing round the pitch in the evening. | ||
