Hibs In Denial

derek adams HibsHibs are in denial that they will be facing a relegation battle as they prepare to meet their near neighbopurs at the bottom of the SPL in the next week. Weather permitting, ninth-placed Hibs are set to meet Hamilton tomorrow night and Aberdeen on Boxing Day, looking to increase their five-point advantage at the foot of the table. Saturday say the Easter Road side lost 2-1 to Kilmarnock in their first game in three weeks due to the snow and ice which has covered Scotland. This reverse means Colin Calderwood has secured just seven points from his eight games as manager, having accumulated eight from the opening eight games of the season - five under Calderwood's predecessor John Hughes.

But Assistant manager Derek Adams, while eager to secure points sooner rather than later, is not yet unduly concerned.  Adams said: "It's a long campaign and a lot of things can unfold now until the end of the season - we're only halfway through. It's always important to get back into games as quickly as possible. We'll have to wait and see if the Hamilton game's on because of the weather conditions. We're preparing for another game with another three points at stake. We've got a lot of games in a short space of time and it's important that we pick up as many points as we possibly can."

Accies' home game with Celtic on Saturday was postponed due to a burst pipe at New Douglas Park. A quick repair and much improved conditions will be required for the game to take place.

Meanwhile, Hibsare hoping that Liam Miller's controversial red card at Killie will be rescinded. Adams said Hibs were planning to appeal the charge of violent conduct which saw Miller sent off at Rugby Park, but the SFA were this afternoon yet to receive an official appeal. Hibs must submit any appeal by 1pm this afternoon for it to be considered.
