David Wotherspoon is not afraid of hard work and hopes the investment in the Netherlands will be repaid on Thursday.

Hibs' David Wotherspoon feels their pre-season tour of Holland will be invaluable as the side prepares to play their Europa League opener against Maribor. Hibs ended their four-match Dutch schedule with a 1-1 draw against Vitesse Arnhem on Saturday  with Wotherspoon playing at right-back. The club are back in Edinburgh for a short time before flying to Slovenia as they are required to be there at least 24 hours before the game Thursday.  Slovenian cup winners Maribor beat Hungarians Videoton in the second qualifying round and have already begun their domestic season, but Wotherspoon is confident Hibs are ready for the challenge.

The versatile teenager said: "The game against Vitesse was important because it was a good work-out and in terms of preparing for Thursday it was a useful exercise. We are still getting our fitness and match sharpness back, so playing the four games in such a short space of time was beneficial. We are expecting the match on Thursday to be played in hot conditions, so it was good to be able to prepare in such a warm climate. Often it can be hard to adjust to the heat, so now we are used to that heading into the game on Thursday. It is really exciting and I cannot wait - hopefully I will get a piece of the action. It is really important that we start off positively and it would be great to get that first win in Europe."
