Sides at the wrong end of the SPL table are willing to fight to stay off the bottom and it was St Mirren's turn to move up the table.

St Mirren are off the bottom of the SPL thanks to 2-1 win over Falkirk who were reduced to ten men after 55 minutes when Jackie McNamara was sent off for a crude tackle on striker Jim Hamilton. That did not stop Hamilton from celebrating a win on top of his opening goal in the first half. The striker is now urging his team-mates to maintain their standards if they want to avoid the drop. Gus MacPherson's side had picked up just one point in their previous seven games - scoring just two goals - and lost their last five. However, Saturday saw them not only break that poor run of results, but strikers Hamilton and Dennis Wyness also scored a goal each to answer their critics. If Hamilton's 41st-minute opener was important, Wyness' winner 17 minutes from the end held even greater significance as he broke his St Mirren duck with his first goal in more than 13 months. The former Inverness striker, who moved to Love Street in the summer, had not scored since October 27, 2007 and Hamilton was understandably delighted for his team-mate.

Hamilton, who played in place of the injured Craig Dargo, said: "
It's a massive result. We came here and played the right way, passed the ball and had a lot of drive about us. It's not an easy place to come to but I think we had the determination to get the three points. Results went for us as well to get off the bottom of the league so we've got to build on this now. There is no point going in next Saturday and falling flat on our faces. The results have been very disappointing but we've been creating chances so I'm delighted for Dennis. It's been a long time coming for him. He's been getting a lot of stick and the boys have been giving him a wee bit as well, that's part and parcel. But we know what he can do, he brings a lot into the game for us. I'm delighted for him to get off the mark."
