Good Performance - Pity About The Result

C:WindowsTempphp10C5.tmpMorton manager Jim Duffy was frustrated with the result as his side lost 2-1 to Dundee United on Saturday – but not with his team’s performance. The 'Ton's manager was more concerned about striker Jai Quitongo’s injury, saying he is still waiting to hear discover the extent of the injury and hopes it is not serious.

Looking back at the game Duffy said: "
I’m obviously very disappointed with the result – but not the performance. I thought we put so much into the game; the effort, the commitment from the players was first class. Every single player gave everything. We made errors, of course we did or we wouldn’t have lost the game, so we’re disappointed with those. But in terms of asking for 100 per cent, every single player did that. At 1-1 we looked comfortable, but one little lapse of concentration You have a player like Scott McDonald. United have got that wee bit of extra quality in that area – but by and large we competed equally as well as a team who are firm favourites to win the title."

Duffy claimed not to have seen the late handball that led to passionate penalty claims by his players. Despite this he felt his side deserved a share of the spoils and so left Tannadice frustrated to have nothing to show for their efforts. Duffy went on: "
I think all the players were terrific. I thought it was a really good performance and that was acknowledged by the supporters. They cheered the players off the pitch, and rightfully so. And we acknowledged the fans coming up and getting behind the team, and I think the players responded to that. We just feel frustration going away because we took nothing from the game. We felt we deserved a point. I’m not saying we deserved all three because that wouldn’t be telling the truth, but I think we deserved a point for what we put into the game."

Striker Quitongo had to leave the field just after the hour mark which was a concern for his manager. When asked for an early assessment of the extent of the injury, Duffy said: "
It’s (too) early. He just felt his hamstring cramping up and I’m hoping it’s not too serious, but you can never tell. If it’s a tear or a pull then it’s obviously a period of time, but if it’s a cramp, it might just settle down. So the medical department will assess that over the next couple of days and we’ll see where we go from there. I thought Jai was outstanding today. His movement, his work-rate, getting in behind and stretching the game was terrific."
