Glasgow City Prepare For Champions League Quarter Final

Last updated : 21 January 2015 By Laura Montgomery

Glasgow City have announced pre-season games against top English opponents to prepare themselves for their upcoming Champions League quarter final against Paris Saint Germain. Unlike their French opponents, who are in mid-season, Glasgow City are not in domestic competitive action until one week before their big game against PSG on 22 March at the Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie. With limited time to prepare, City have set up some glamour friendlies against English Super League sides.

First up this coming Sunday at the Excelsior Stadium are new FAWSL 1 team Sunderland, followed by an away trip to big spending and current Continental Cup Champions Manchester City on 15 February at their brand new City Academy Stadium in Manchester. Next on the list is a home game against FAWSL runners-up Chelsea on 22 February, as Eddie Wolecki Black’s side pitch themselves against the team who agonisingly lost the Championship last season to Liverpool on goal difference.

Commenting on the upcoming games, the City Head Coach  said: "Our pre-season schedule has a familiar look to it. Over the past few years we have faced English Premier League sides such as Arsenal, Liverpool, Everton, Man City, Chelsea and Birmingham. These challenge matches have proved to be very good preparation for the following season. Sunderland are now an official Super League team and will provide us with an early test in our pre-season this weekend. Manchester City are being tipped to sweep all before them this season whilst Chelsea appear to be regarded as the team to stop them. Therefore we hope to be in very good shape tactically for the beginning of the new season and our Champions League quarter final."

City’s pre-season fixture round-up:
25th January - Glasgow City v Sunderland, Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie, 2pm
15th February – Manchester City v Glasgow City, City Academy Stadium, Manchester, 3pm
22nd February – Glasgow City v Chelsea, Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie, 1pm
Entry to Glasgow City home friendlies is cash gate. Adults £5, Concessions £3, U16’s FREE.
