However, the first chance of the game fell to Shine as she almost battled through to be one on one with the ‘keeper but for a last ditch challenge from the Aberdeen defender. City continued to pile on the pressure, winning corner after corner but despite headers from Love and McCarthy they were unable to turn the ball home.  The best chance of the first half fell to Fiona Brown. The City winger made a great diagonal run to evade the defence and get onto a ball over the top before volleying the ball across the face of goal. However, the Aberdeen number one was up to the task and pulled off a top save to prevent the ball bursting the back of net. Jo Love was next to try and open the scoring but her glancing header flew wide of the post. Moments later, Shine beat several defenders with quick feet down the wing before squaring the ball to Brown whose shot was well held by Flaherty in the Dons nets. A succession of corners followed as City continued to dominate. Lauder’s header just missed the goal whilst Brown’s intended cross looped onto the top of the bar but as the whistle blew for half time, the score line remained nothing each.

City made a change at half time with Julie Fleeting coming on to replace Ruesha Littlejohn and the veteran striker looked lively, causing problems in the Aberdeen defence with her strength and runs. The score was almost immediately opened as Rachael Small almost diverted a City cross into her own net but the post saved her blushes. However, it took until the 67th minute for City to beat Flaherty and her resilient defence. Shine got her head onto a brilliant cross by Ross, placing the ball out of the goalkeeper's reach and into the far corner. There were few other chance in the match. Carla Boyce and birthday girl Sam Kerr came on to replace Fiona Brown and Hayley Lauder. Aberdeen player Cassie Cowper had to be replaced after picking up a nasty looking injury. Shine and Fleeting both saw shots go wide in the final moments of the game but City saw the game out comfortably to win 1-0 and move two points clear at the top of the SWPL.

Glasgow City are back in action on Wednesday night as they travel to Edinburgh to take on Spartans at Ainslie Park, 7.45pm.
