C:WindowsTempphp37A7.tmpLess than a week after their first League defeat in six years, Glasgow City bounced back in style defeating fellow Premier side Hamilton Accies 11-0 in the Scottish Cup, off the back of an impressive 4-0 defeat of Celtic midweek in the League. It seems the shock loss to Spartans only seven days ago has reignited a spark in Eddie Wolecki Black’s side and they demolished Hamilton with goals from Courtney Whyte (2), Eilish McSorley (2), Denise O’Sullivan (2), Susan Fairlie (2), Morgan Marlborough, Suzanne Lappin and Julie Nelson.

City made a few changes from the side which swept aside Celtic so impressively midweek with the most notable addition being 16 year old Courtney Whyte, who was awarded her seventh start of the season and the youngster didn’t disappoint, scoring two fantastic goals and creating others with some expert set piece deliveries.  It was a Whyte corner with less than a minute on the clock which gave City the opening goal as Eilish McSorley converted at the near post. New signing Morgan Marlborough hit number two as she finished off an Emma Black cross and Lappin made it 3-0 after 17 minutes heading home after excellent play by Abbi Grant down the right.

Whyte hit a screamer into the top corner from 20 yards out to give City a 4-0 lead at the break and was provider in the opening minute of the second half as her free kick was netted by City defender Julie Nelson for goal number five. City made it 6-0 with an excellent team goal finished off by O’Sullivan and the Irish international got her second and City’s seventh goal minutes later as she headed home a Black cross. Substitute Susan Fairlie finished from close range on 66 minutes and then Whyte scored again to make it 9-0 with less than 15 minutes remaining. In the closing stages McSorley scored from inside the box after a clever Lappin pass and just on full time, Fairlie made it 11-0 as Megan Cunningham in the Accies nets could only parry a Marlborough shot. Sponsors Player of the Match went to midfielder Denise O’Sullivan as she and Lappin in particular orchestrated an impressive attacking performance from the Cup holders.

Commenting on the win and performance, Wolecki Black said: "Cup ties are about one thing and that's about getting into the next round. Firstly I am delighted we are through to the semi final draw. However the pleasing thing is that we have managed to achieve that by turning in an excellent performance. The build-up play was done at a tempo that suited us, our combination play was of a high standard and the variety of chances we created was great to watch. Courtney Whyte’s second goal was a superb finish but the build-up to the goal was as good as I have seen from us. We have once again returned another clean sheet at Airdrie and that adds to our confidence. We can look forward to the cup draw at Hampden and now have a full week to prepare for the visit to Rangers in a top of the table clash."

Glasgow City are joined in the semi-final draw by Spartans who defeated Inverness, Hibernian who defeated Falkirk and Aberdeen who beat Rangers 2-1 after extra time. The draw takes place this week at Hampden with the semi-finals scheduled for Sunday 19th October.
