Dundee United's Jon Daly is on schedule for an earlier than expected return to action.

Dundee United have been give a lift ahead of Monday's game against Hearts by the news that Jon Daly could be back in action six months ahead of schedule. Daly faced the prospect of being out of action for 12 months after suffering a cruciate ligament injury in April. However, the latest news is that he could be back as early as next month. He said: "I've picked up the rehab now and I'm looking to be back at the end of September or the middle of October at the latest. It's a lot quicker than expected. When it first happened there was talk of being out for a year so I could be looking at being six months ahead of schedule."

However, Daly is well aware that he has no guaranteed ticket back into manager Craig Levein's squad let alone the team. He went on: "
Even when fully fit, it was always going to be difficult to stay in the team. We've got a good squad and most players find it hard to stay in the team; they know there are people there waiting in the wings vying for a place."
