Forgive And Forget

By Ed_ScottishFitba

Time to move on for Jimmy Calderwood as his bad temper over Kevin Kyle sojourn to Turkey has subsided.
Kevin Kyle 1Jimmy Calderwood was not pleased that Kevin Kyle jetted off to Turkey without letting him know. While the player had been given permission to play in a trial game for Russian club Spartak Nalchik, Kyle neglected to advise Calderwood that he was off. This misunderstanding did not stop Calderwood recommending the Kilmarnock board offer the striker a new deal. Kyle picked up a groin strain on his travels which kept him out of the Ayrshire side's game away to Hibs on Saturday and will be out of the squad for tonight's home game against Rangers. However, Calderwood has drawn a line under Klye's travels and has asked Rugby Park chairman Michael Johnston to extend Kyle's current contract which ends in the summer.

Calderwood said: "Kyle had been given permission to go but I was annoyed at him for not letting me know he was away. He could have sent me a text message or something but I have cleared the air with him. He is at hospital this morning and we will see how the damage is but we expect him to be okay for Saturday. But I talked to the chairman and told him that I think he should go and talk to Kevin and offer him a new contract and I think that's what they are going to do. I like Kevin, he is looking a lot fitter and in the last few weeks he was coming to form and most teams in Scotland would love to have that Kevin. I have spoken to him and I think it was a bit of a shock to him going over there. He told me that he realises what he has in Scotland and what he had in England and so I don't think abroad is for him. So it is up to the chairman to sort out the finances but I don't think Kevin is against staying at Kilmarnock, definitely not, especially if we can get players in that we want to get in. It is not always about money but it is easy for me to say that. He has to look after himself and his family but happiness is a big thing in football and in life."

Calderwood has the Old Firm to face in his next two game with Rangers coming to Rugby Park on league business tonight and then Celtic in the Scottish Cup on Saturday. He is looking forward to the challenges and wants to make history by beating them both in the same week. Calderwood said: "It is a wonderful week to look forward to. You can make history because it's not often you can beat the two of them in the one week. We are under no illusions how difficult beating Rangers will be but you can always dream. It's fabulous going to Ibrox and Parkhead but it's always better having them at your park. We beat Celtic at home in the SPL recently and we rode our luck at times but we have nothing to lose in these games."
