Dundee United are preparing for the inevitable.

Dundee United look to be resigned to losing their manager to the SFA but Craig Levein’s advice will be sought on who would be the best person to replace him at the Tannadice helm. The SFA are expected to announce Levein as the man to replace George Burley today. United chairman Stephen Thompson has not given up hope of hanging onto his manager but would welcome Levein's suggestions for a new boss if he does leave the Tayside club.
Thompson said: "Craig and I have a very honest and open relationship and at the weekend we had a long chat about the situation. We want to keep him, that's obvious, but for me it is important that, whatever happens, we maintain that relationship. He is someone we rate very highly and, because of that, I would be more than happy to listen to any suggestions he had regarding a successor, if it was to come to that. That is not to say I would pay heed to his recommendation, but, with his knowledge of the game, he is worth listening to."
