Celtic need some points in the Champions League and they have men who can score goals. Can they bring back points as souvenirs of their trip to Spain?

Former Celtic striker Frank McGarvey is confident that his old side have the firepower to get a win tonight against Villarreal. He knows their record away from home has been poor in the Champions League but hopes they can reproduce their league scoring form in Spain. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink grabbed a double and Scott McDonald came off the bench to notch in Saturday's 3-2 Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League win over Aberdeen, which took the club's total for the week to 10 goals. After a goalless draw against Aalborg in their first game in Group E, Gordon Strachan's men need at least a point tonight and possibly all three if they are to have a realistic hopes of qualifying for the last 16 for the third season in a row.

McGarvey said: "
Forget draws. Celtic need to start winning games away from home in this group. You might get into the UEFA Cup with draws away from home but you need to win if you want to get in to the knockout stages. There is no point in going away and trying to hold out for a draw because that's never been Celtic's way, even when I was a player. They must have a go, otherwise the probability is that they will get beaten. The Celtic defence just can't keep a clean sheet, so what's the point of losing 1-0 or 2-0? You would be as well having a go and getting beaten than defending and still getting beaten and I'm sure the Celtic fans agree with me. When we played Ajax, they had Johan Cruyff, Jesper Olsen and Soren Lerby, with Marco van Basten on the bench. Our game plan was to take them on and we won because we were a better team than them that night. We had a go at them but if we had defended, we would have been out."

McGarvey went on: "
Why not have a go? All Gordon's best players are offensive players. All the front players are scoring and the great thing is that they have an edge about them now. It's no coincidence that Gordon is employing a rotation system and great credit to him for that. All the players know they have to be at their best. Georgios Samaras has started the season well and Vennegoor of Hesselink responded on Saturday with two goals. Scott McDonald came on and scored as well. Aiden McGeady knows he has to play well when he gets the chance and he came on and made two of the goals. So all the positive aspects of Celtic are going forward. The best way to get that win is to go for it. Villarreal will be expecting Celtic to defend so, by taking them on, they will have the element of surprise."
